Let’s say that you are outside while an earthquake hit. What are you to do? These guidelines can help in preventing you from getting injured.
Stay away from buildings as long as possible. The greatest danger exists directly outside building exits and exterior walls. During the 1933 Long Beach earthquake, most of the 120 fatalities occurred when people ran out of the buildings only to be crushed by falling debris. Most earthquake injuries occur from falling objects, rather than the ground movement itself.
